In trade and commerce, a simplified balance sheet is comprised of figures denoting such things as assets, liabilities and equity. In finance and capital markets, the way in which a bank accounts for its assets and liabilities in the context of a fractional reserve system works a bit differently than how most outside the banking world would conceptualize it. This tutorial on simple fractional reserve accounting is part 1 of 2.
